The Upstairs Library quiet study area
To schedule an in-person tour of the Library, please contact Heather Edmonds at [email protected] or 617-587-5579.
The desk offers checkout and renewal of Library materials and course reserve items. Reserve materials include photocopies, books, slides, videos, and other class-related equipment, such as BIOs and skulls. Help is always available from the Library staff and student aides at the service desk. Please ring our silent doorbell if you don't see us at the desk, and someone will arrive immediately to assist you.
This room houses a printer/photocopier/scanner. The printer can be accessed from all computer workstations in the Library. There is also a paper recycling bin and various office supplies: stapler, staple remover, scotch tape dispenser, 3-hole punch, electric pencil sharpener and paper cutter. Paper refills and other assistance can be obtained at the service desk.
This area, between the service desk and the reading room, has four workstations that provide access to the internet, the Library’s electronic resources (online catalog, databases, eJournals), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). NECO Active Directory login is required; guests, please visit service desk to use the Guest Pass. Additionally, there are several armchairs and coffee tables in this space.
This is a large study area where quiet discussion is allowed. Current issues of journals for which the Library has print subscriptions (in optometry, ophthalmology, medicine and science) are displayed along the walls. There is also a section of leisure reading materials, which can be checked out of the Library for the day (please ask at the service desk).
The Library’s collection of circulating books (organized by call number) and bound journals (organized alphabetically by title) can be found in the stacks room. This space also includes study carrels.
There are two rooms available for group study on a first-come first-served basis. Study Room B can be reserved in advance.
On the second floor of the Library, the Soltes Room houses the Library's special collections, which include rare or out-of-print books. The quiet study area has four tables.
