According to the NIH, your research plan "describes the proposed research, stating its significance and how it will be conducted." Your application will be reviewed by two audiences: a group that is unfamiliar with your work or techniques and a group that is very familiar with the science behind your application.
You will attempt to write to both audiences as each assigned reviewer votes on your application and will serve as advocates as the review panel discusses your application. The NIH suggests these tips for winning over your reviewers:
- "Write and organize your application so the primary reviewer can readily grasp and explain what you are proposing and advocate for your application.
- Appeal to the reviewers and the funding ICs by using language that stresses the significance of your proposed work."
