Avoid Plagiarism and Give Credit to Your Sources

Remember to:

  • give credit to every source you use in a section titled References at the end of your poster
  • give credit to the source of the images you use underneath each image
  • paraphrase instead of cutting and pasting text from a source. Even when you paraphrase, you must still give credit to your source. Put the title of the source in parentheses after the quote, summary, or paraphrased quotation
  • try a program like Mendeley or Zotero that will create citations for you
  • use a website like ZBib.org or Citation Machine to create citations
  • choose a style for your references and be consistent. The two reference styles for medicine are NLM and APA formats
