Online articles, eBooks, and reserves in GDrive can be accessed at any time. Off-campus access requires a login with the number on the barcode sticker on the back of your ID card, as well as your last name (all lowercase).

Please note that, due to licensing restrictions, some resources only allow one user at a time. If you cannot access an online resource, please wait a few minutes and try again. If you experience continued issues, please complete this form to let us know, or call us at 1-617-587-5579 during business hours.

 

Renewals

How do I renew an item?

Items with two- or four-hour borrowing times may be renewed in person at the service desk or by telephone at 617-587-5589 at or before the time the item is due. Renewal may not be allowed if another person is on the waiting list.

 

Books with one-week borrowing times may also be renewed in person or by telephone at 617-587-5589.

Fines

What happens if my item is overdue?

Our borrowing motto is: We want the items, not your money!

 

Many of our items have a "grace period" -- that is, an amount of time an item can be overdue before the borrower starts accruing fines. Please see the "Is there a grace period before accrual?" column in the chart above to learn more.

 

The overdue fine depends both on the item and the amount of time it has been overdue (see the "Fine rate" column in the chart above). Once an item is overdue, you will receive an email notification from the library. Fines are submitted to the business office, and are included with tuition bills.

 

Please note: iPads not returned to a library staff member before the service desk closes for the evening are subject to an additional $10 overnight fine. Further terms and conditions are noted in the iPad Use Agreement & Policies form that students are asked to complete at the beginning of each fall term; for a copy of the form, please contact us at library@neco.edu. Failure to comply with the agreement may result in a loss of iPad borrowing privileges.

Lost Items

What happens if I lose or break an item?

If a library item is lost or broken while you are borrowing it, you will be charged the replacement fee for that item (see "Maximum fine/replacement fee" column in the chart above).

 

Replacement fees are submitted by the library to the business office, and are included with tuition bills.

ILL

I can't find what I need. Can you get it for me?

Probably! If you're looking for something the library doesn't own, we are connected to thousands of other libraries, and we can request it on your behalf. This service is available to NECO students, faculty, staff, and residents.
